Through the first two games of this series the Mets have recorded 26 hits. That’s borderline ridiculous, the Nats are a team that’s built around a pitching staff and if they don’t keep runs off the board they cant, well, win. To their credit the Nats have only allowed 10 runs off those 26 hits, partly by allowing only 6 walks in the same period. This may show good
concentration, or guts, or even luck that the Nats haven’t gotten scorched on the scoreboard despite the poor pitching, but what it definitely means is that the Nats top two starters this season Odalis Perez and John Lannan haven’t had any answers for the Mets.

Two hitters in particular last night gave the Nats the most trouble, Brian Schneider and Ryan Church. As most of you Nats fans know, Washington traded Schneider and Church this off-season for the young Lastings Milledge in a move that was considered by many as lopsided in the Nats favor. Church and Schneider were both considered replacement level players and Milledge is still considered a future star. However since arriving to New York both Church and Schneider are hitting well over .300 at .324 and .321 respectively. To put that in perspective no National who has played over 20 games this season is batting over .300, in fact only one, Cristian Guzman, is even close.
To add insult to injury Church and Schneider contributed greatly to the Nats loss last night by combining for 5 hits, 3 runs, and five runs batted in. Both players have contributed greatly as the Mets returnees from last season have all struggled. It’s frustrating to see, but hopefully 5 years down the line we’ll be getting the last laugh.
Church on the season: .324 BA, .385 OBP, 8 HR, 30 RBI
Schneider on the seaosn: .321 BA, .391 OBP, 1 HR, 10 RBI

Cristian went 0-3 in a disappointing loss for the Nats last night. While he went hitless he did do something extremely rare for our prized shortstop, Guzman recorded a walk! That puts him at 6 this year, and counting!
