Four in a row, here we go

Odalis Perez just can’t catch a break. The starter for the Nationals pitched seven innings allowing only three hits, he struck out four and walked none. His only weakness tonight was the long ball though, and despite his great outing he was still unable to record his first win of the season.

The Nats however got help from strange places again tonight as they were able to convert their great pitching into another narrow victory, 3-2 over the Pirates. Austin Kearns actually contributed to a victory, and Wil not Will Nieves continues to fight to stay in the majors.

Pitchers Duel

Zach Duke received some harsh words from The Nats Blog in the Pirates preview earlier today. He showed us up, the former star rookie allowed only 2 earned runs in seven innings. Despite not earning the win today the Pirates have to be happy about his performance. Duke didn’t focus against the lesser hitters however, and they’re the ones who beat him.

Oliver Perez may have had his best outing of the night. He only made 2 mistakes, a bomb to Freddy Sanchez and a bomb to Ryan Doumit. If you take the two dingers away, the Pirates only had one ball land in fair territory. Perez can be frustrated about the fact that he doesn’t have a win, but it seems each time he is pitching the Nats are winning or are in good position to win, and no one can be upset about that.

An Austin Kearns Production

Austin Kearns had him self a day today, showing that in winning streaks like this anyone can help. Kearns recorded only his 5th multi hit game of the season but he came through tonight when it counted. Kearns went 2-4 with a run and a RBI. Someday this team will hit at the same time…

perez is great, but he hurt his own cause in getting a win with the two mistakes for homers
