First I’d like to apologize to The Nats Blog readers for the last several days. I just finished up my junior year at school out in Ohio and with finals, a birthday, and today with the move back to Washington D.C it’s been hectic. The good news is I’m back in town and can now watch the games on a TV bigger then my computer screen! Now I can not only continue the regular operations of The Nats Blog but will soon expand our set up too.
Uncovered Nats News
As predicted (or suggested) on The Nats Blog about a week ago, the Nationals have placed Matt Chico in the bullpen after yet another awful start, and have finally placed GW Alum Mike O’Connor in the rotation…where he belongs. O’Connor has looked almost as lost in the bullpen as Chico has in the rotation, but O’Connor’s flashes of success this year in the minors came when he was able to warm up and game plan on five days rest. The possible upside of this move for the Nats would be O’Connor blossoming in the pen and becoming an adequate 5th starter. The downside would be O’Connor flops and is terrible…but could he really be worse then Chico? This should be a good move.
A little about last night
The Bullpen blew the game for a change. The Nats bullpen had been so good all season so it’s frustrating to see them lose a close one in late innings just because they couldn’t get an out. What’s more frustrating is it seemed like the only batter the Nats really had to get out they couldn’t, Lance Berkman. Berkman had a career night in what has been a pretty bright career. Berkman recorded his first 5 hit game and also snagged two basses en route to spoiling a solid start by Shawn Hill. It was a rough game but the Nats always have a chance when they keep it close.
