Nats take last 2 from the Mets, win series

The Nats won 5-3 last night and 1-0 this afternoon to take the four game series from the Mets 3-1. Wednesday night’s game saw the Nats capitalize on only 6 hits to score 5 runs, and with help of great pitching by Tim Redding came out on top. A Ryan Zimmerman homer and timely hitting in the 7th let the Nats take the lead for good.
Today’s game saw the return of Jason Bergman from triple A Columbus. He was matched up against another young starter trying to make a name for himself, former top prospect for the Mets Mike Pelfrey. It was a pitchers duel for the ages. Both pitched into the 8th, both allowed only three hits. Bergman got the better of Pelfrey however not only with his 9 K’s, but by blanking the powerful Mets line up to give the Nats the win.

Half way through the month of May

Season stats can be deceiving, sure it can give you an overall idea of how a player has preformed throughout a whole season but it doesn’t tell you how well a player is doing right now. Lets look at some of the best and worst players on the Nats through the month of May.

Nick Johnson returns to his comfort zone, the DL

Nick Johnson lasted almost a full three months before hitting the DL with a torn ligament in his wrist. Luckily it coincides perfectly with Dimitri Young’s return, who will immediately replace Johnson at first base. This is the third season in a row the Johnson hasn’t been able to finish, while it may not hurt the team directly as he was only hitting .220, him being on the roster and the payroll really is just a bit of dead weight. However hopefully for the Nats, the Godfathers return will spark a little bit of hitting into the line up, and most importantly, it means Wil Nieves will stay on the roster!

GUZMAN WATCH
Guzman went one for four tonight. His empty batting average is slowly dropping, and with hit his trade stock. Hmm…

Maybe Guzman's sinking trade value will get a bump from the stellar defense in the 8th inning double play.

Of course, it was spectacular mostly because he was so slow that the runner ran into him, but the Nats really needed that DP.
