The game seemed to be going so well. The park was loosely packed with mothers. The rain had held up. Shawn Hill was gunning the Marlins down outside of one run from a Wes Helms sac fly. Aaron Boone was continuing his streak of being a monster when given the chance to start by answering Florida's run with a run of his own. The Nationals even launched a rally, scoring three in the third. All was going well.Wait, these are the Nationals here. A team that has been completely abysmal in this recent series with Florida. In their season series against Florida, in fact. Hill finished off his seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Holding a modest two run lead. Sure enough, however, this lead would not hold. Just as the rain started to become more then just a lame mist, Luis Ayala allowed a lead off hit, followed by a game tying home run to Jeremy Hermida. After securing two outs, Ayala then let up a solo home run to Uggla, for his second of the day, to give up the lead. The Nationals forged a Nationals sized rally in the bottom of the ninth. One in which Lastings Milledge reached base on balls, and was followed by a free swinging(wtf?) Willie Harris, who popped out to right, a Elijah Dukes who fouled out to second, and a Jesus Flores who grounded out weakly.
Containing Hanley Part 2
The Nats for the most part stopped the Marlins shortstop today allowing only one hit in four at bats, a single. It’s no coincidence that it resulted in the closest game of the series, even if it was a loss. I’m not sure why teams don’t just stop pitching to him, Jorge Cantu is performing well in a comeback bid but not enough to deter pitching around the monster that is Hanley Ramirez.
