Reasons to go to Nats games this summer:

Top free agents after the 2008 season:

1B Mark Teixeira- Grew up in the D.C Area, only 28, can flat out hit the baseball. We would have to get rid of Johnson and Young, but it would really be an upgrade. There have been some rumors that him and Scott Borus will be demanding a 200 million dollar deal, which I can't see anyone signing, but if the Nats want to make a spash they should plan to spend up to 90-100 million for this great player.

SS Rafael Furcal- They think he’s 31, but who really knows. He’s everything Guzman is not and a little bit more. The speed wont last much longer as he is getting towards baseball’s middle age, but he can still field, hit and throw across the diamond with that rocket arm with the best of them.

OF/1B Adam Dunn- Dunn is only 29, even though it seems like he’s been around forever. He is one of the most powerful hitters and baseball and gets on base in great numbers. Dunn would be a perfect fit to put behind Zimmerman to give him the plate protection he desperately needs.

OF Vlad Guerrero- Wouldn’t it be just fitting for him to come back to his old franchise? I don’t think there’s any chance of it happening though. Guerrero while still at the top of the game is on the back end of his prime and it would be foolish for anyone but a contender to sign him. The Angels could pick up his 15 million dollar option as well.

SP Ben Sheets- Injury prone but that will keep his price down. If the Nats can get him for a reasonable price, he could settle nicely atop an already good starting pitching staff. It wouldn’t be wise to invest too much in a player who hasn’t had a full season in several years

SP C.C Sabathia- A rough year on the mound this season may be a good thing for the market. Sabathia’s price could go down which would be a good thing for Washington, because regardless of one bad year he is still one of the top pitchers in baseball. Imagine adding a superstar on top of this group of outcasts that manage to get the job done.

Sabathia/Sheets
Hill
Redding
Lannan
Perez

RP Francisco Rodriguez- With the woes of Cordero’s arm it may be smart to go out and get one of the best closers in baseball when he’s available. If Cordero ever came back imagine him as a set up man for a guy who throws in the mid-high 90’s, the 8th and 9th would belong solely to the Nats.

The Nats can only realistically get one of these guys, but a little can go a long way for a franchise that right now has great role players but not enough stars. I really feel this aspect is in the hands of the fans. The new ball park is there, it just needs people in it. Players will want to play in a beautiful stadium, but more importantly they want to play for a good franchise (which includes good fans) and for a team that will shell out the dough.

What do you guys think?
